Founder of TMSA-UK
I started the group in November 2011 when I was part-way through a battle to have my chest surgery re-done, so I was looking for support. Despite my very easy road with coming out to family and friends, I was acutely aware of others who weren’t so lucky. So starting the group was a mix of needing some peer support myself, but also as recognition of how incredibly lonely it can be. Initially I thought it would be just friends, but the group grew steadily to almost 2000 members! Over the years we have diversified to support those who identify as non-binary, but on the trans masculine spectrum.
The group is run by a Committee of Volunteers who dedicate time and effort to ensure the group remains a safe, supportive and informative platform for trans masculine people across the UK. Our organisation runs via a social media platform and operates 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. As a committee we are all focused on the development of our trans community and we believe it is essential to continue to develop understanding from within and to continue to be a grass roots organisation.
